Yaare Neenu Paarivala Yaare Neenu
Yaake Ishtu Ishtavaade Nange Neenu
Bugari Hange Nanna Netti Suttutaite
Premadaana Shelipada Telutaite…
Ho, Neenu Nakkare,
Nammoora Tumba Gandhada Male..
Ninna Sparshake,
Tangaalige Sugandhada Kale…
Yaare Neenu Paarivala Yaare Neenu
Yaake Ishtu Ishtavaade Nange Neenu
Bugari Hange Nanna Netti Suttutaite
Premadaana Shelipada Telutaite…
Angi Haaki, Kropu Teedi,
Odi Bande Ninna Nodalu..
Beku Anta Summanara,
Eno Ondu Maata Aadalu…
Ninna Nodo Aase Onde,
Ukkutaite Yaavagalu..
Ninna Bedi Modutaite,
Fanu Nodu Iva Aagalu…
Haaro Hakkiya,
Rekkege Ondu Gejje Kattala..
Hey, Odo Meghake,

Yaare Neenu Paarivala Yaare Neenu.. Mmm..

Manasu Mallige had created a lot of buzz because it was the remake of Sairat, which had gone on to become the highest grossing Marathi film last year. That, however, was the wrong reason to remake it in Kannada. Manasu has many scenes similar to director S Narayan’s own 2007 film, Cheluvina Chittara.
Teshee Venkatesh’s 2012 Kannada film Olavina Ole had a plot similar to Sairat. But the lure of box office success, rather than the content, seems to have resulted in this remake.
A poor boy meets a rich girl and it is a teenage romance soon after. The rich girl is also from a “privileged” caste which makes things bad for the boy. Soon they are on the run. It is here that the film resembles Cheluvina Chittara to a large extent. For those who have already watched Sairat or similar films in Kannada, Manasu Mallige may not be a big surprise. The class and caste undertones are only suggestive most of the times and the subtlety may be lost on many.
S Narayan has subdued his fetish for graphics but not completely. His new fetish seems to be aerial shots. Rinku Rajguru reprises her role in Kannada too and has dubbed herself. She has done a commendable job with her performance, but the problem with the language becomes obvious in a few places. Nishanth, in his debut, fits the role.
The film has a plot that is relevant. Class and caste conflicts are simmering below the surface and films are trying to capture that.
Sairat however required a bigger transformation to Kannada nativity. Narayan could have taken a leaf out of his own earlier films.
Manasu Mallige is not a bad film. It has a relevant subject which makes up for its over-dependence on the original.
An unpardonable act by the director is not to have Kannada subtitles while some of the characters are speaking in Telugu. What was the point in remaking a Marathi film to Kannada then?
